Wanted to wish all a very happy and safe holiday season. I have moved out of state, currently employed at Pathways Behavioral Healthcare Center. Seems time spent with Seagate helped pave the way to this move. ha! Doesn't pay great (not-for-profit organization) but I get free counceling! Only open 3 days a week so lots of free time to do other things. Working out okay for now with doing the I44 run every month.

I ahven't been with Seagate since 2001, ex of the Order Management group. Most of my accounts had me working with the OKC group more than the Scotts Valley group, and there were a lot of wonderful folks whom I really enjoyed working with. Since that time I spent 6 months traveling in Thailand, Malasia and a short time in Japan. Recently we spent a month flying around Alaska. Currently I am back in school studying taxes and finance. I'd love to hear bout some of the people I used to work with. Mary McKinney, Cathy Arwood, Joni Schrock, Jeri Yandell, Piper kelley, Joe Tardibono... Happy holidays to you all. Deb Riedy ex-STSV O/M

Hello Seagaters, et, al. I just found this web site. Davie and I both retired Jan 7, 2000. Davie has had a rough year in 2003. She started by breaking most of the bones in her face in April. After recovering from that she had a heart attack in Sept. She is still trying to recover from that. And if that wasn't enough, our daughter-in-law had a massive brain stem stroke in July. Where is all the leisure time retires are supposed to have. I've had to do most of the cooking and cleaning and laundry these past few months. Thank God I'm retired military and thank all you hard working tax payers. The Air Base supplies all our prescriptions free of charge. Someone was looking for an ex-Seagate person who worked at Tinker. Linda Gale Simmons recently hired on out there. Harry

Here is a better list of the ones who went to Smith & Nephew: Mo Williams, Geno Curnett, Dana Fricky, Pam Hong, Lynn Harvey, Mark Martin, Vicky Webster, Doris Smith, Robert Pittman, Dee Hilger, Nham Nguyen, Am Lamm, Phillip DeSalvo, Billy Glenn, T. Thach, and Harry Wilkes. Two left for better things: Ron Birdsong & Quay Byrd. We are all looking for better jobs since work is slow, benefits are mediocre, and management is hostile.........not to mention the pay is nowhere near what we were getting...........

Just a few are Robert Pittman, Mark Martin, Dee Hilger, Vicky Webster, Nham Nguyen, Am Lamm, Phillip Desalvo, Billy Glenn, Thom Thach, Harry Wilkes, & Doris (Peola's daughter). There's still a few others I can't remember, but I'll add them later. We were all so sad to hear the news of Debra (Dee Dee) Dorn. We will always remember the way she made us laugh.

Hello to All, This is my first time posting to the site since leaving Seagate 03/2002. I hope everyone is doing well whether working or not. Oklahoma is not the best place to be looking for employment these days. Many of you will remember me from Finance in B4 and later B5. I joined the CSO Program Management group in 1996 and worked there until being ousted in 03/2002. After leaving Seagate, I spent about four months studying for my securities broker license and have been a financial planner with MetLife Financial Services May of '02. I have work with several ex-employees with their retirement planning (rollovers) and would like to hear from more of you whom would like to learn more about what I do. Believe me, there are more options out there than Fidelity. Also, MetLife is always looking for quality individuals and I would be more than happy to discuss this with anyone who is interested. I can be reached at 848-4900 (office) or 740-9685 (cellular). Have faith and keep posting. CHEERS TO ALL...

I hope that everyone had a great 4th. A lot of time has passed since I last left a message on this website. Lots have happned to me some good some bad. I really miss hearing from some of the x-Seagate employees. I hope and pray that every one is healthy and finding employment better than they had. I realize that relocation is really hard to do especally since some of you spent the prime of their lives working for Seagate and when the time came what you did or contributed to the company really did not count for much. I guess that is how it has always been when working for large company. It may be legal but I have some problems with liking it. Well the old degenerative disc problem that I have has gotten worse I have problems walking. I have a good 14 foot fishing boat with a 10 horse motor, trailer with 2 spares, 3 life jackets never used and 2 new paddles that I need to sell. The boat is alum. and does not leak the motor starts and runs really good. The tires are really good on the trailer and one spare is new and has never been used. With the back problem and the diabeatis (I have to stay out of the sun) I can no longer get much use out of the outfit. If anyone needs a good fishing outfit call me at 354-3719, Even if you don't need the boat call and just talk.

The job hunting method that worked for me was to just pick up a phone book. Call electronics and engineering companies. Ask what products they produce and tell them about myself. I talked myself right into a good engineering job about 2 months ago. Don't overlook the small companies. I was pleasantly surprised by the salary offered. The work is interesting yet much simpler than what I did at Seagate (shsh-don't tell my boss!). The stress is much lower having only one boss to please. The best advice I can give is to try to have fun while job hunting. The less stressed out you are the more you will enjoy your phone contacts, and the better you will come across to people. Don't try to be in control of the process. Pray and let God lead you in the process. Another positive thing I tried was Computer Tutoring. If you made a living at Seagate sitting at a computer. Who's better qualified? Have some business cards made up and put an ad in the paper. I only made $10 to $20 an hour, but it was $10 to $20 more than I got paid wishing for a job. I had fun and made contacts that potentially could have lead to a better job. The main thing is don't be afraid to work, even if it's for nothing. You never know where it will lead. Another FREE service for making contacts is CHURCH! Don't overlook this one. Let the people you pray with know that you are looking for work. I you don't go to church. Now is a good time to visit one or several. There is a big world out there with plenty to do with that free time and talent. EXPLORE! God Bless, Good Luck, and For God's Sake ... HAVE FUN! Dan.

We were offered a transfer to either LCO or TCO in '01. For us it got down to whether we would rather struggle in OK or take a pay cut to live in the Arctic. (And I'm FROM Minneapolis!) Call me if you need packing material for those relos to the North Pole (all Seagate transferees get the family discount) or if you just want to meet for lunch to catch up. Just wanted to “keepintouch” and say hi to all my former and current Seagate friends. Miss you all! When I left Seagate in February of 2002, I choose unemployment instead of transferring up north. It’s been a welcome break after 32 years of employment at the same place, and so far it’s worked out for me. I have had a lot of time for myself and gotten in a lot of fishing (also managed to squeeze in a little time to improve my education). Unemployment doesn’t pay as well as Seagate, but time is short, and I’m glad to have had this time off. With that said, my unemployment runs out in September, so I guess it means back to work back to work for me. Prospects in Oklahoma don’t look good. I think I’ll call the president and find out where they are building that “Bridge to the future” so I can go live under it!

Tomorrow the axe falls again on OKC Seagate. To those who will be going to Minnesota, I wish you a safe and happy move. To those staying here in Oklahoma, the best of luck in finding your new place in careerland. To those who have already found their places from the 2001 round, if you have any helpful hints please pass them along. The halls that were greatly dimmed two years ago now will grow dark. If the experience of missing those who have already gone is an indication, no one will ever be forgotten. There will be new families, careers, lives, but the memories of what has been will always be the compass that points us toward the future.

Hi all! I just wanted to make a comment about moving. My wife and I moved to TCO during the previous "reduction" two years ago. We had no roots in OK since we are both from Arkansas but we had developed some pretty good relationships during our 4 years in OKC. It was hard leaving but our thinking was that you go where the jobs are. I didn't see much of a future for me beyond Seagate in OKC. Housing up here is very competitive and quite a bit more expensive than anywhere in the south. But, the quality of life is much better, in my opinion. The winters are a bit nippy, but the city doesn't shut down. There is plenty to do all year long. I had to learn to layer, layer, layer, in the winter. The summers are awesome (except for the mosquitos). The heat is judged by days over 90 up here, not over 100. Just look at your own situation. Can you make the same pay, incentives, etc. elsewhere in OKC? For me, it was no. And, yes, I would do it over again. I do miss the south but I'd miss my paycheck more. :) Good luck this week.

For those who ask is it worth it to move on .... If you truly love Oklahoma and its people and your family and friends are there and you can make it - then don't do it! Unless you have an absolute love for the mountains and don't mind paying an arm and a leg for a place then good luck, it is beautiful out here. But - if we were to do it over again we wouldn't have left Oklahoma - you never know where the axe will hit next....

Hi to all my former and current Seagate friends. I have read the messages for some time, but have never posted. I have stayed at home with our daughter since Nov. 2001. It has been wonderful to see her grow. My husband, Allen, continued at Seagate, but was just notified this last week that he will either be transferred to TCO or LCO or lose his job. He thinks he will be offered a transfer, and will find out Tues (6/10). We have to decide if we are going to take it or not. We were born and raised in OK and our familes are still here. We would love to hear from those of you who landed in MN or CO. Would you move again if given the chance and would you still move to the same location or do you wish you had gone the other direction? How about your spouse and family - has the move been good for them? What about the cost of living - are you making it like you did in OK or have you had to make sacrifices?

Dearest Seagate Family, First, Hi dearest Michelle and thank you for this Website! Like you, girlfriend, it is super groovy! I miss you so much and all my Seagate family! It was with heavy heart that I read today in The Daily Oklahoman that 250 more terrific Seagate Technology employees are being relocated or laid off. My thoughts and prayers are with you all! My former employee, Gabriela Guardia, also got laid off a couple of months ago when Reynosa was sold, came back to OKC and is looking for work, while my former employee, Michelle Paul, seems to have left for Dallas with a new sweetheart. Guess Shon Bower is still in Arizona? Write me if you've heard from any of them -- I'm still in touch with GG. They all dandy ladies and I miss them! I wish them the best! My husband, John, and my experiences in the Caribbean running a newspaper were less than ideal (Boy, does my earlier entry seem more like wishful thinking than reality! Bottom line, third-world country, very expensive, thousands of miles from home, bad crime, insane publisher of the newspaper -- a REAL pirate of the Caribbean who refuses to pay work permits, etc. -- and HOT-HOT-HOT!), but more importantly we REALLY missed friends, our son (now 21) and other family too much! We returned last Nov. and started looking for work. But good jobs are tough to find, even for highly skilled former Seagate employees and award-winning newspaper writers/editors. But, don't give up hope! Since mid-Jan., John has worked as copy editor for The Oklahoma Gazette (he loves it) and I'm now serving my 5th week as a public information specialist for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Took me six months to land a decent job (a lot longer because once John got a job here, it limited my ability to look out of OKC -- coming home was the goal!) When looking for work, being humble helps a lot. Kept getting told I was over-qualified. Also, salary expectations in Oklahoma aren't what they were in Oct. 2001 when I was laid off. Nope. I won't get rich working for the state, but I deeply respect my new boss and enjoy working as a public servant. After reading this board, I just want you to know how very proud I am of all of you -- Heck, Marietta is even a mayor! You go girl! Somehow, we all just seem to eventually land on our feet. For those who are newly facing relocation or being laid off, have faith and confidence that you are NOT just your jobs -- they are just what you've been doing until now. Now is a time to concentrate on your dreams or the goals you've put off until tomorrow. Tomorrow is now and has a new and exciting future for you if you simply embrace it and are true to your heart. It may take time and plenty of patience, but God is always there for us. Have faith, pray and remember, you are always special! With deep affection! Kevan Goff-Parker, former manager of corp. comm. for OKC and Reynosa. I can now be reached at kevanparker2002@yahoo.com. Please feel free to contact me anytime and I'll help in any way I can ... Bless you! Kev

Hello Everybody! I read the messages on this site all the time but have never added one - until now. The Seagate ax has struck again. We are now going from 550 people to 300. The only depts left here will be IT, Accounts Payable, and SMC. Design engineers will be moved to LCO or TCO by October. The FOF folks haven't been given a firm end date yet. Even though I've known it was coming it's still a shock when it actually happens (as I'm sure many of you know.)

Hey Ross: Congratulations on your 50th reunion. I'm sure you will enjoy renewing old friendships. Hello to all former Seagate and older employees. Have you ever thought that many of us spent more waking daylight hours with our Seagate family than with our blood relatives. When I'm out and about and see former employees it is really enjoyable to stop and visit. Some of the folks I don't even know names. Anyway I visit this site often to see whats news. Thanks to Jack Hayes for keeping an eye out for jobs for the unemployed or underemployed. Have a great summer!

Hello out there to all of the X-Seagate and still employed Seagate people. It looks like this web is not getting much usage so I thought I would change that. This is my 50th High school reunion and the 100th Year that the High School was started. The School Tecumseh High School was started in 1903. It will be nice to see classmated that I have not seen for 50 years. The graduating class only had about 45 or 50 people and I know that at least 6 of them are deceased. It will be a fun time trying to guess who is who after not seeing each other for 50 years. We are having a class dinner on the 30th and a banquet for the whole school in the 31st. they usually seat each class at a table so we can visit. I have not been to the reunion since about 1983 and a lot of people were not there we are hoping for a big turnout for the 50th celebration as the class of 1953 will be the honored class this year. Come on people let us know what you are doing it is always nice to hear from fellow workers that were at Seagate.

Hello to all, Just wanted to say thanks for all your prayers and to those of you who requested yard signs. I guess my experience on the switchboard at Seagate helped in my campaign, ha, ha! I called about 600 registered voters to introduce myself. It worked because I was elected Mayor of Warr Acres with 51.3% of the vote and our son, Timothy, won his bid for Bethany Council Ward 3 with 71% of the vote. You should have seen John passing out fliers!! So busy...so much to learn...so many meetings to go to.... Thanks again, I couldn't have done it without all your prayers. If I can be of service to anyone, please don't hesitate to call on me. Love to all, Marietta Tardibono (aka Madam Mayor)

Billy had been a Seagate employee for over 30 years, originally based in Oklahoma and most recently based in Scotts Valley. Billy was a dedicated colleague, and last year was recognized for his contributions by winning the Spirit of Supply Chain award; he was also a friend to many of us, and he will be greatly missed. Billy's wife, Janice, is also a Seagate employee. She is currently based in Scotts Valley as Materials Supervisor. We will keep you posted over the next few days as Janice and her family plan memorial services. At this point, the plan includes memorial services in both Oklahoma and California.
