Don't forget next month, first Wednesday, December 5, @ the Cracker Barrel @ 10:00 a.m. Also, I want to report that the Crescent Society had a lovely dinner meeting on Thursday, November 8, at the Sportsman's Club @ 6:00 p.m. The speaker was Gaylen Colver of Channel 4 "Is this a Great State or What?" It was very humorous and enjoyable. We saw his top 10 favorites. The food was great and there were about 95 in attendance. After being gone for a year, it was heartbreaking to see all the empty cubicles and hallways. Still, I could not have stayed away. How could I? It was the best job I ever had. Forrest Cunningham <fcunnin6@ford.com> Dearborn, MI USA - Thursday, November 01, 2001 at 10:54:29 (MST) To all my Seagate friends and family, I would like to take this opportunity to say farewell and thanks to all of you who have been such a joy to work with. You have truly enriched my life. Tomorrow is my last day at Seagate after 22 years (14 of them on the Switchboard). I'm sure when answering the phone at home I will say, "Thank you for calling Seagate, may I direct your call?" You can take Marietta out of Seagate but not Seagate out of Marietta! You all are more than friends, you are family. We have been there for each other through thick and thin. I wish all of you the best in your future endeavors. As for my future, I'm going to kick back and enjoy the holidays and then in the spring semester start on a certificate in Sign Language. God bless all of you. Well, I'm happy to say that my husband, John, and I are going to live there. We just got back on Wednesday from visiting St. Kitts-Nevis to meet the publisher and the editor of The Observer. We found out they are great guys, they met our need for more cash and gave us more time to get there. So we are now future employees of the 6,000-circulation weekly newspaper of the "Islands that Touch the Sky." John will be deputy managing editor (and occasional writer), and Kevan will be the senior reporter and design editor. The islands have all sorts of wildlife: a tame and ambitious middle class; an easy-living, wealthy retirement class with multi-million-dollar habitats; a highly literate working class with living standards that rank from Third World to Oklahoma poor; fun-loving Rastafarians; and French, British, Canadian and American expats who've found the perfect life (hopefully, like us). Who knows what else we'll find in our three-year contract? We plan to leave for there in November. We hope that you'll consider a trip to the Caribbean. St. Kitts-Nevis has pristine beaches, rainforest, extinct volcanoes, monkeys that outnumber the humans, snorkeling and several hundred undiscovered shipwrecks for divers. (If you run across one, we only assess a 10 percent finder's fee). There's a Four Seasons, Jack Tar Village, the Marriott ... and we'd love to visit with you if you find your way there! I miss all of you and often think of my Seagate family. God bless and take care! Marietta Tardibono <MimiTardi@aol.com> Warr Acres, OK USA - Thursday, October 11, 2001 at 07:56:25 (MDT) Dear Seagate Family, Last Friday, October 5, I accompanied John to the out-processing of the RIF'd employees. I want to share with you all a beautiful thing that happened that morning. Afterward, there were approximately 50 "B5 exiles" that met for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. There we were; black, white, native American, Chinese, Iranian; all together in camaraderie enjoying each other's company for one last meal together amid laughter as well as sadness. No one saw the differences in race, color or ethnic background. We were family. After all these years (from 5 to 37), we have been together in marriages, divorces, births and deaths. We have grown up together, watched our families grow and been there for each other in happy times and times of need. We were like the commercial of the boy on his first day of junior high; the mom is pulling him out of the van by his feet while he is hanging on to the door screaming, "I don't want to go, I don't want to go." And then the time came for our final goodbyes. Among handshakes, hugs, well wishes, good lucks and God bless you's, we decided it's been too good to lose touch with each other. So, we set the first Wednesday of every month to meet for breakfast at the Cracker Barrell off of South Meridian at 10:00 a.m. Whoever can make it, we will see you there! P.S. As we were filing out of the restaurant, who should be walking in but Bernie Carballo, undoubtedly shocked to be seeing all these "B5 Exitees"! I will write again to say good-bye before my exodus. Love to all, Marietta Tardibono, Switchboard Operator for one more month! I'm nearly settled in now, and looking forward to doing some freelance desktop publishing and graphic arts, while I take my time to find a "real" job that I enjoy as much as I did my job at Seagate. So here's my shameless plug -- to any of you who are starting your own business ventures, I'd be happy to help you with logos, letterhead, business cards, brochures, flyers, etc., etc. This is what I was doing when Seagate found me, and it's kind of exciting to go back to my roots! Good luck to everyone -- it's been a wonderful experience! Myra Cleveland <myra54@swbell.net> Yukon, OK USA - Monday, July 16, 2001 at 14:09:20 (MDT) Good-bye, good luck and best wishes to everyone!
